“In from the get-go” is the debut album from Big Telephone, a new solo project from a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Glasgow, Scotland.

What started as an aim to write a piano-led album has resulted in a warm and dreamy full band sound that wouldn’t seem out of place in Laurel Canyon. There is also something deeply personal in the album, as you would expect from any solo project. Indeed the lead single “California” encapsulates this, the music video for which cuts between people the artist has a personal connection with in one way or another. The refrain “It is someone you know” is repeated for emphasis.

“In from the get-go” is the other single, with a downbeat guitar riff almost straight out of the Elliott Smith playbook. Even in this acoustic guitar led song the piano shines through in a stand-out instrumental section. The biggest departure for the artist is probably the final track, “Far too late”, an ode to Bruce Hornsby.
